Urban Landscape Design at Lembah Sireh Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia
North-Heaven Promenade (2018)
Derived from the word north which is showing the location of the proposed site. Kelantan is in the north of peninsula Malaysia. ‘Heaven’ its self is a main theme of the Islamic garden that always re-imagined how is heaven looks like. Promenade, is always related with the concept of heaven which is having a nice straight way to go there.
Issue:
1. The main problem of the proposed site is flood that submerged the surroundings due to increased water level of Kelantan River during monsoon.
2. Lack of use of green open space at the proposed site and infrequent maintenance so that it can cause poor environmental quality and loss of value of attraction.
Goal:
Overcome the main problem of the proposed site, namely flood, and create more vibrant environment by providing a space that reflect the characteristics and identity of Kelantan landscape (Tanah Serendah Sekebun Bunga).
Objectives:
1.1 Implements stormwater management system by providing underground water storage tanks on several strategic spots to help overcome flood problems at the proposed site.
1.2 Provide bioretention or rain garden by utilizing water from rain garden harvesting system and storm water management to help discharging water and give possibilities for creating the new ecosystem
2 Enhancing the park by adding the characteristic value of the Islamic identity to each detail element that will be used to increase the attractiveness for the local residents to do socio-cultural activities.
